Looks fantastic Mr. Willson. Will the model be covered?
Mr. Willson07-Oct-14 22:41
Yes I will be covering the model. I was thinking about using tissue this timeto speed up the covering process. Normally I cover my models is card -stock. My concern is the fragility of a Dope Tissue surface. The 2 models that I tissued in the past both have rips in them and their surface looks brittle. Any tips using Dope/tissue? Thanks. Josh

I've never covered my models with tissue, they all have been in-filled with balsa. The master at tissue covering is David Duckett. I believe he uses a heavy grade silkspan which I think is stronger than tissue, he's the one who can help with the dope/tissue and what process he does. By the way, the card-stock on your other models are fantastic!!

Thanks, Al. I suggest you start at the bottom of my hanger with the PBY-5. It and the ones that follow are all covered with silkspan and the procedure is always the same, whether on an open frame or on a sheeted model.

That Silkspan looks interesting. I will have a look at your build thread David and see your method. Thank you. I may once again go the card-stock route, I might even try covering it in that super thin pricey plywood. I`m still concerned about using tissue. I only marginally fill in the frames and it might be too frail to pencil panel lines over tissue. I will Investigate. :)
