Ready to fly, except for the motor. Can any experts tell me what kind of rubber motor I should buy for it? I have a Guillows 500 series blue rubber band at the moment, which seems heavy. What length / and weight (?) rubber would suit this little 12", 10g flyer? How many turns should it be wound with? Thanks!

The best rubber is Tan II Contest, but it is no longer manufactured. Peck Polymers sells Tan Super Sport rubber, which is not too bad. A good rule of thumb for the length is 50% longer than the peg to hook length. For this size of plane, I would guess that you need about 0.08 inch thickness. When lubricated, with something like Armor All, you can easily put in 800 turns, but it is better to start with around 200, until it is trimmed well.

Thanks John, I'll take your advice, really appreciate that! What kind of Armor All should I buy? And how often do you need to lubricate it? I don't think I have a field with long grass around here, how broken up is it going to get test-flying over short grass?

I use Armor All auto protectant, used for cleaning plastic and vinyl. I usually re-lubricate once every month. Short grass should be fine for this size of model because it is reasonably light. I trim almost all of my models on a hardwood gym floor. One thing that will help with the trimming is to put a paper tab about 1" x 1/4" on the outer left wing, angled down at 45 degrees. This will help stop torque spiraling which is important on a low wing plane.

Thanks John, placed an order with A2Z Corp this morning, I'll let you know how it goes.

A neat little plane. Are you switching to rubber power instead of electric, or is this just a fun project?

Poppy, the skill of the guys on this page is just so amazing. Check out a couple of the videos, especially the amazing Ju88 on the next page. I wanted to see if I could at least get something basically trimmed out for this style of flight.
