Rants are fun every now and then. How did you end up working the canopy? Anything special? As you said, they're really light weight.

no - the canopy is now fixed in the closed position. The hinge solutions I had just wouldn't allow enough arc. Then the material kept flexing during the masking process and when I used the filler along the seam where it mates to the fuselage. This caused some cracks in the filler and uneven paint demarcation on the canopy frame. The canopy needed to made of much thicker material - I had even reinforced all of the edges of the clear part with strip styrene and framed the base of both the windscreen and canopy to no avail. As it sits today it is acceptable just not what I was aiming for...

Thanks. I think it's going to be tough on the F9f too. I was going to make the flat bulletproof windscreen, but now I'm not sure if it will take the abuse. I bought 2, so there's a little room for error.

Thanks Poppy - looking at these images the finish actually seems to come close to an all metal effect. She's photogenic anyway. The paints used were Tamiya Gloss Aluminium and Testors Buffing Stainless Steel which when dry can be buffed or polished to a high shine. I used that on the rear fuselage and leading edge slats. This was my first Dave Diels kit and a good experience overall.
