I could almost here Richthofen cocking the hammers on his dual spandaus. The picture is breathtaking. How long was the flight?
moostang5124-Jul-07 17:05
Hear.....moostang....hear.
jgood24-Jul-07 17:45
I think the total flight time was about 2 1/2 minutes. Not long, it probably would have almost done that with rubber power! That was about all my shaking hands could manage though. It seemed like hours, and an instant, that it was in the air!

Great shot and great build James! You can almost envision the WWI battlefront.
jgood24-Jul-07 17:51
Pity I forgot to include the Baron's Spandaus. I didn't want him taking pot shots at any passing Maurice Farman Shorthorns, or Morane Saulnier Parasols.
moostang5124-Jul-07 19:45
Ah, someone who knows WWI aircraft. The Baron would have shot them while still on the ground or should I say drawing board.
jgood24-Jul-07 19:52
Especially the old Shorthorn, eh? I learnt about them in 'Sagittarius Rising', great book. Have you read that?
poppy24-Jul-07 21:01
Great picture! A storm on the western front.
John M Oshust24-Jul-07 21:25
James, I just ordered the book you mentioned....thanks for the direction.
jgood24-Jul-07 22:23
Excellent, John! I hope you like it. I found it lost direction a bit once he goes to China, but the WW1 stuff is really good.

There's a short video of the flight here.

Great video!!

Very nice James. Great shot against the clouds. Another book worth reading is called "Flying Fury" By James McCudden. It was originally printed just after WW1 as "5 Years in the RFC". I picked up a copy in a second hand book shop for $15. It gives a good idea of day to day life.
jgood27-Jul-07 07:17
Thanks guys. I will hunt that book out on Amazon, thanks brennanj. Maybe I should add a 'suggested reading' page on here!
John M Oshust27-Jul-07 18:02
I for one think a reading list is a splended idea.
