Turned out mighty fine ! When did the F-80 Shooting Star become known as the P-80 ?

Thanks, guys, still much to do! The P-80 became the F-80 when the Air Force became a separate branch of service, September 18, 1947. That's when the red stripe in the stars & bars insignia was added, as well.

ANOTHER great work of art...........

The P stood for Pursuit, because that type of aircraft was expected to pursue the enemy bombers coming to attach us. Like David wrote, after 1947 it was switched to "F" for "Fighter". I still haven't figured out the difference was between "A" for "Attack" (A-20, A-10 Warthog) and "B" for "Bomber" (B-17, B-1). BTW, David, this looks incredible. A great assist from Ted with the landing gear.

Also changed were the letters on the fuselage, from PN to FT. The F-86 used FU and some speculate it may have stood for more than ID during its battles with MIGs.:-)
