I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

This plane weighed over 10 stone. It has been used in a number of movies. Supposedly they film it at three times the speed then slow it down
wingspanner, Comment for image # 847326 May 08 17:48
Well, wind speed was 26mph and there was only one crash and that was because of a jet issue.

Those are some large models. That must have been alot of fun to watch them fly.

A couple of Thunderbolts, a Ryan and the pilot having a rest.

This one entered the walnut class....

A break from the building to attend the Longhorsley Large Model Association Show. As you can see a 1/2 scale replica

Lovely job Wingspanner. Looking forward to seeing this one completed.

No John I have not but i will look into it. Thanks. My local model shops have limited supplies of wood so i might have to order online.

Did you test thin Basswod for sheeting it may give a grain apttern that is better?
wingspanner, Comment for image # 843621 May 08 16:58
The colour is a little bit darker than I wouls like. The best result for the panel lines was scoring with the back of a blade before staining.
wingspanner, Image # 843621 May 08 16:56

Well I'm all strung out. Added extra stringers for the sheeting of the fuselage. The stained colour on the balsa is for the sheeting with tests for the panel lines.

Formers in place, also mount for dummy engine.

Interesting, this should provide a great foundation to attach all the details.
wingspanner, Image # 837417 May 08 08:04

Built a box construction for the formers to work around. This ones a static.

Tony, I would think there would be some side formers. Does the plan show any half moon shaped parts?
John M Oshust, Comment for image # 831011 May 08 20:22
No problem...add the side keels and sand to shape/
wingspanner, Comment for image # 831011 May 08 19:35
As you can see the formers fall short of the plan. Also the bottom formers are smaller than the top. I understand that there is a box construction in a dark outline which the formers sit on but on the bottom picture there are two stringers, one runs off the box construction and the other runs from the rear. How are these attached. Are they just packed out from the box construction.

Wood Grain Decals.....did I see these at the LHS along with model railroad stuff???? Not sure but, worth a check. Here's another guess....local crafts shop...check out the doll house area....who knows??
jerry campbell, Comment for image # 819305 May 08 09:36
If stain dosen"t work there are some wood grain decals available, off the top of my head I don't remember where I got them, but I can check if you need.
John M Oshust, Comment for image # 819304 May 08 17:44
Off the top of my head...use Elmer's wood filler as it takes stain. Test the balsa with stain first before making the plane and sealing.
