E-mail me a dcouch001@tx.rr.com and I will be happy to give instructions on my techniques.

Ed, check my hanger, P-38 file, has some pics and instructions on my Hellcat build( I had not changed my heading). Also instructions during Dauntless and Bf109 build. I would start with the Mustang since it has flatter sides and top and bottom don't have too severe curves. Once you get the hang of it, any plane that has metal skin will be good to model. I would caution that it takes a lot more time and patience to get a good finish than if you are covering with tissue or silkspan.

Poppy, since you have done so many planes using sheet balsa on both the wings and fuselage, is there one in particular that would be easiest for a first timer. I have the Dauntless but thought I might practice on something simpeler. Do you have a summary of the hows and whys or anything I could read to get a better understanding of the process. Thanks for the help and all of the great examples of your labors.

For wings, I glue sheets together on a flat surface to get proper width, then sand joint smooth. I glue the leading edge first, let dry, the apply cement to ribs and stringers and trailing edge. Fold sheet over and and using the palms of my hands, I press to contour and hold until glue sets. It takes about 5-7 minutes. I've tried pinning and taping in place, but the old hands just give me better control.

Ed, I always use Testor's wood cement, except for severe bends when I use thick CA with a Zap kicker. Testor's plastic glue for plastic parts, even when glued to wood. Elmer's white glue for clear canopies. Hope this helps.

Poppy, I am a great admirer of your work and all of the other folks on this site as well. Would you mind telling me to what parts you apply the adhesive and which adhesive works best for you. I am in the middle of my first build, the Guillow 400 Warhawk.

What a nice looking bird. I want to build a flying version someday, too bad Guillows never came out with a smaller version. I think Dumas now has an 18 inch version I might have to build. Good job.

All 1/32" sheets attached w/Testor's wood cement.
EdClark, Comment for image # 583722 Jan 08 03:27
Poppy, what adhesive do you use and are you using 1/32 sheets. Thanks for the great artistry you add to the craft. I hope to be maybe half as good as the group on this site.

I always knew it would end up in a museum
