I think all is working again now. Please leave a comment on a photo somewhere if something you need is not working still.

Friend O' Lennon, not gonna look like Pat Boone!

Check it out on youtube! I think you'd enjoy it.. somewhat "school-house rock" meets "yellow submarine" narrated by Ringo Starr, Dustin Hoffman, or Alan Thicke depending on which version you watch. You say Mendocino and I think Zappa.. kinda the other end of the musical spectrum :-)

I've never seen the video of The Point but I've known the music since it first came out. From 1970 until 1974 I was stationed on the coast of northern California a couple miles north of Mendocino. Those were the years I learned to paint and while I wouldn't say Nillson was an influence, I certainly wore out some vinyl with his name on it.:-)

I went a different direction entirely and watched "The Point" on youtube! thanks for bringing that to mind-- if I watched that in '71 I certainly didn't appreciate it... some great music and artwork

Actually the colors work for all five branches because they all wear blue. The Army and Marine dress uniforms have blue elements, as well. While I may see it as the bars of a Captain, 20 years after all, I didn't paint it for that reason. It really is "Pause" and it's blue only because that's the colors the owner wanted. Actually, I think there are more ex-sailors on here than you realize. There just aren't that many Navy kits.

Now, after a little more consideration, I realize I forgot about the Coast Guard. Those colors actually work for them, too. I need to support those other "ex-lieutenants" out there, since there seems to be such an abundance of land-locked service people here! :) As an aside, the bars used by the Navy and Marines are actually slightly different than the ones used by the Army and Air Force. Army/Air Force bars are always beveled, and Navy/Marine bars are not. However, from an abstract point of view, I guess that would be a distinction without a difference: the bars still represent the same thing.

The subject of the painting is the two bars and what they represent. Two silver bars mean Captain to the "senior" Army and Marines as well as the Air Force and many police and fire personnel. It's only the Navy and Coast guard who see them as Lieutenant. David Duckett, TSGT USAF, Retired.

The colors make it Captain, USAF. Wrong colors for the more "senior" services. jhuck-80, LCDR, USNR.

I'll turn it over for the next shot.......

David, isn't that upside-down?
David Duckett, Comment for image # 2943717 Jun 13 15:47
I like you! You do realize, of course, that I put it in this build only because it isn't finished. Art imitates life, even if it's accidental.:-)

barrel roll because its not safe to do a split-s in a Lancaster

"You see what you want to see", Harry Nillson, The Point.

in that case, I still prefer it as a most abstract rendition of an D-03 Avro Lancaster, truth be told

No need for the "sorry", that's what it's all about.:-)
