Wonderful view there Don. It looks to me like an expanded Blue Ridge Mountains scene.

In that first valley.

I guess we're sort of between them. The Yaak is about 100 miles NNW and Ruby Valley is about 150 miles SSE. We are on the west side of Flathead Lake about 30 miles south of Kalispell. This, unfortunately, is a fairly typical day in the valley.

This is about 6500 feet. Home is somewhere under the cloud to the right. This one is a couple of years ago. They call it "an inversion".

Why altitude is important. This is at 3200 feet this morning.

Thanks Ray and Creosotewind. One of the things I like is how much you learn about it as you research. While Strombecker calls this a "C" model, it's actually closer to the "A" and I am shooting for the "B". The external differences were mainly an 8" longer nose and 2 piece main gear doors. The last 2 aerial "kills" were made by a P-61b out of Iwo Jima.

Beautiful work. Something about solid wood models that are really special. Especially the ones that are built well, like this one.

Damn, that's cute. I had one of these back in the late fifties when I was 10ish. Couldn't wait for the glue to dry, so my brother set it on top of the oil stove that heated our house and of course all the plastic parts melted and the plane looked like it had been shot down in flames.

Not sure if I will detail landing gear. It's so small you almost need a microscope. Decals, etc. will be a challenge.
