It's also nice to watch.

Thanks gentlemen. I am happy with a model when it looks right to me. Model of anything is nice but a more accurate judge of ones work on the Guillows forum is the number of hits it gets. Guillows knows full well that many model kits are sold by someone seeing a finished model.

Maybe it should be 'Model of the Year' - well it would be if they did it :) Happy Birthday

Thanks, Dale. A Faber-Castell artists pen was used.

An honor from Guillow's that is well deserved !

You guys and your panel lines; results are amazing ! What kind of pens are used?
Creosotewind, Comment for image # 3172204 Jun 14 11:37
Excellent way to go about it. I have some old erasure shields (very thin steel, about 3"x4") with various shapes cut into them. They often work for access panels.

I admire you david for being able to mix your paints with expert skill and coming out with the most prestiges models.

About the color. It's light gray with iridescent silver added. The first two or three coats were light gray, the next two or three were with the silver added, and the final three or four were with more silver added. Liquitex makes several iridescent colors, bronze, gold, copper...., and they all look like snot by themselves. They are incredibly translucent and the only way to get a uniform color is by spraying. Liquitex also makes spray acrylic at about $15 per can. However, when mixed with a base color they impart a warmth and soft glow to the original color. That's why this looks more like a pearl than a piece of metal. The iridescent colors have zillions of mica flakes added and that's why the paint is shiny, if not reflective.

It IS a pretty plane. At this point I was considering racing stripes instead of these decals.

I learned about panel lines from Poppy who does some of his free hand. I'm not so brave. These are some of the templates I used for drawing the panel lines. They're made of .010" and .020" styrene.

Again, thanks for all the nice compliments! And thanks Guillows for the recognition. And...thanks, John, for the nod. A little token of appreciation should arrive in a day or two. Panel lines add interest to any model wearing metal skin, especially on very light colored ones. They aren't exactly accurate, especially on the bottom front where the wing and fuselage meet but the landing gear outline isn't either. The rest of it is pretty close.
