For reference I'll use this 1/48 scale kit by Tamiya. I think a plastic kit is perfect for getting a model to look correct as many kits are not scale. That's especially important in this case because the Cleveland plans were drawn during the war so accuracy isn't guaranteed.

This is inside the Career Academy in Bismarck, North Dakota. The men are hanging the Piper Cub built by the students over the past three years. This is the place I gave the models to and you can see the Dave Diels "Jack" below on the window ledge.

The stabilizer was built per plan and is now infilled with 1/8" stock. The elevators were built separately and are glued on to the stabilizer for sanding and shaping.
