" I would like to do one better than send you pictures. We will be having a dedication ceremony for the aviation area in the career academy. ( The room is named the Bob Watts aviation center. Mr. Watts played a very large role in the history of aviation in North Dakota. On his passing, he made a generous donation to the school district to be used for hands on instruction.) I would like to invite you to the ceremony. The ceremony will be held sometime around the first of December and the district has agreed to cover your airfare. We would also like to do a write-up about you and the models prior to this event. Although we have not confirmed a date, I hope you will be able to attend. Thank you, Mike McHugh."......I hate cold weather but HELL YES I'LL GO!! I am deeply moved and honored. When I started painting about 100 years ago, I always wanted to hang a painting in a museum. This works. I feel bad about going up there for that single event so I'm going to offer to spend a couple of days in the classroom with his students who build the smaller Guillows kits as part of the class. I haven't been in front of a class in 42 years but it should be fun as I believe his class is quite familiar with this site.

I posted this pic before but since I can't remember where, here it is again, with an update. This is an e-mail from Mike McHugh, the aviation teacher I've been chatting with.

I'll clean up the rough edges tomorrow.

This filler makes these filets a breeze. It probably required less than 5 minutes per filet.

The stabilizer and elevator are sanded to airfoil. The fin/rudders are flat with rounded edges.

The second application goes on easily and is just as easily smoothed into the right shape. It will now dry another 24 hours before I sand it smooth.

Filets the easy way. This is one application of filler applied with my finger. The objective is to get the general shape, not the finished product. I let this dry 24 hours.

The ERCO Ercoupe is a low wing monoplane first manufactured by the Engineering and Research Corporation (ERCO) shortly before World War II, production continued after World War II by several other manufacturers until 1967. It was designed to be the safest fixed-wing aircraft that aerospace engineering could provide at the time, and the type still enjoys a very faithful following today.

Looking great, David. I really like the shape of this aircraft.

Nicely, Nicely, David.

I filled the gaps with scrap balsa and applied the first application of filler. Tomorrow I'll add the rear wing fairings and finish shaping the filets.

Attaching the wings was a pain in the ass but they have blended into the fuselage nicely.

If you missed it this morning, tonight when the Moon rises it will be full and Jupiter is as close to the Earth as it ever comes. They should be quite a sight tonight, starting around 7:30 pm.
