The bottom was covered with three pieces.

When it dries I used 220 wet/dry sandpaper to sand away the excess silkspan. The sanding block is also used for the same purpose. Each side required two pieces.

Outside surrounded by large cardboard boxes from Amazon which contained large canvases.....The entire structure has several coats of nitrate dope on it and is quite smooth enough but I want this one covered. Dip the silkspan in the water, lay it on the towel, wipe it slightly to remove excess water, lay it down, smooth it out, and paint dope all over it. Absolutely guaranteed not to deform the wood! :-)

Back to the Typhoon...

I was out only an hour:-) The desert is at its prettiest and the trees are just now putting on their leaves and flowers will follow and zillions of bees. The cactus are on the verge of blooming, as well. Soon enough it will break 100* and all the snowbirds will go back north with memories of a beautiful spring. Yes, I very much enjoy nature's TV:-)

At least it's a new joke. Those are only found in low-lying areas and, as you know, Phoenix is much lower than Tucson.

David, it looks like a globe mallow. We used to have one in our front yard. Where the ground is soggy you can find marsh mallows. (Sorry)

Penn Valley Hobby Shop re-kits many kits no longer made. I have purchased several Todays hobbies kits from them and have always found the wood of excellent quality, same as the originals. Although I have no experience with any other kits from them I would expect the same quality of wood. I suggest you contact them, best by email.

The reason that your kits are in demand, the printwood ones, is that you use high quality balsa. It is a pleasure to cut these parts out and your instructions are top shelf. Please keep up the good work.

As for the rest of the line I continue to convert kits that have been designed on my computer, basically kits over kit #25 (which is now #25-LC). I am looking into finding a printwood supplier. Anyone have any suggestions? I know laser cut kits are the future but at least a handful of my old printwood kits were big sellers and I was looking to order more printwood from my former supplier when they suddenly stopped providing that service. I just found this thread. I have just released the laser cut version of the Hawker Thyphoon now kit # 29-LC. May be too late but have introductory price until March 31, 2015. See my web site for details. dielsengineeringinc.com click on the special offers page.

I've been to the front office where all their models are hanging but that's all. I don't think anything is actually manufactured there but rather the place where all the different parts are packaged into a kit. I got the impression that the wood, for example, is laser cut somewhere else.

That is fantastic! I think the term I have seen is JFB! And it doesn't put 8 inches on the runway either.
