Crank case must be sanded to shape.

And now there are seven pseudo cylinders.

Aligned on a small dowel, the cylinder sandwiches are wood glued together.

The construction of the Baboon was initiated this day. We wish to take advantage of the multitude of laser cut balsa and plywood disks that are supplied in this short kit. This is a bare bones kit without instructions. Baboon fabrication should reawaken that part of my noodle programmed for problem solving, specifically the area dedicated to model fabrication. I was drawn to this particular kit because of the seven cylinder radial engine. The kit engine does not mimic the real Baboon power plant. I find the design of the kit engine aesthetically pleasing and as such, we will not construct an engine that attempts to duplicate the "real thing!" After finally understanding the order of disk stacking, Gumby and I dry assembled two cylinders this day. Two down, five more to go!

Fortunately there is this complete model build link to guide you along.:-) https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?481311-Another-Rake-rare-bird-FK-24-Baboon

BP guy, I had great success making plastic disks for my last monster "Ogre". I sliced them from sheet styrene using a hole punch fastened in a drill pres. I cut quite a few as Ogre has a V 12 power plant.

That's a great way to build radial. I tried plastic discs without much success and metal washers which turned out an engine that would have needed a JATO pack to get off the ground. Aren't you glad it's only seven cylinders?

Hey John - Really looking forward to seeing how that engine "stacks up"! I have a 28" Stearman kit by Thomas Herr (Sig-Herr) HRRK-116 with the 7 cylinder radial of 12 balsa stacked discs for each cylinder, which was the reason I bought it. I will just sit back and watch how you build and detail your stacked engine.

HEY "O", WHERE DO THE WINGS GO ??........

Rayl, Yes they surely did. Six hours to remove the old one and install the new. I have been dealing with this company for 40 years. The furnace that cracked was 42 years old. They just do not make things to last anymore!

Nice clean installation. Your service people did well.

Just about completed. Added an automatic boiler feed valve today. My Princess wanted it as she was afraid of filling the boiler when I am in the hills

What a great camera and telescope your grandson has to image the beautiful blue "scattering reflection nebulosity" of the interstellar dust.

The grandson had his telescope out again. A photo of the m45 the Pleiades

So are we. Unfortunately there are a few bumps upon the road to Baboon fabrication. With some time and few shekels the problem shall be remediated.

Happy New Year John O - looking forward to your fun build.

Ever hear of O'Learys law? Murphy was an optimist!

Of course the Peerless boiler had to break down during the winter storms. Murphy's Luck strikes again.

First day of New Year, and wish all the best of health and good spirits. Looking forward to the Baboon build.
