Covering is complete

Great shot. With the planes in perspective, you can really appreciate the size of the Vulcan.

Thanks David. I must confess I'd never heard of that brand before, though if you use it it MUST be good! The most common masking tape this side of the pond seems to be the Tamiya stuff, can anyone here recommend it?

This is my choice. It's expensive, $5 more or less, but......

You are right Xanadu, when my dad and I visited the RAF museum at Hendon we walked under the Vulcan there and both commented on how enormous the wings were.

We had one do a slow flyover, with bomb bay doors open, at the airshow in Winnipeg sometime in the mid-70's. All I remember was it being HUGE!!!!!!!!!!! Very impressive to say the least.

Next month our Vets group will install a memorial to the 19 men from our outfit who were killed in Viet Nam between the two B -52s. Barksdale was our headquarters and during the war we directed and controlled the B-52 bombing runs. The formal dedication will be next year. The Vulcan was donated to the 8th Air Force Museum of which this is all part in the early 80s. It is a proud member of some very impressive aircraft and history.

The beast is looking good. I saw one of these perform at the opening of DFW airport in '72. A most impressive sight.

Nice fit on the tail, It must be if it's just sitting there. This looks like its destined to be quite the showpiece in the end.

The tail is actually just sitting there! With the center top section of the fuse covered, I used one piece for this part of the wing and will use a 2nd part for the rest of it.

DD, that intake looks great. What do they supply for the dual exhaust shrouds, styrene? What about landing gear? I mean eight wheels a wing, seems a little to much to expect from a kit. Anyway, another fabulous framing fabrication. A little aliteration from the illiterate.

It's now almost, almost, ready to cover.
David Duckett, Image # 479823 Oct 07 21:39

The wings have been glued to the fuselage to allow using the filler to make it all smooth.

This is where the Jetex would fit.

The plans say to cover that section with "stiff paper provided with the kit". Course, there is no stiff paper since this is a Replikit so I'm totally "winging it". The same instructions are for making the engines. Right! I have plenty of reference pics but I'm not sure how I'll do it yet. This will obviously require some serious consultation with the Corona people.

I have an lasercut kit for a 26" span Avro Arrow using a pusher electric. Can hardly wait to build this winter once flying weather for the year.

Whew, that's the DD we all know and admire. Hopefully that leading edge in the center of the intake is for construction only, as the intake on this bomber was a massive opening. Like the way they incorporated that splitter plate though. Sweet looking build.

David, I thought you were getting delusional, 1/16 stringers. Luckily another photo followed quickly.

Impressive! That's one you don't see modeled often on this side of the pond.
