Before I even read who posted this picture I knew who it was. Just something about the perfect colors and perfect paint lines. I'm glad to see you back to modeling.

Nearly 3 months and 8 paintings later, it's back to panel lines.

Dave, please contact me via email (jimb@jrcdesign.com). I have a question for you.

When I met Ed, I gave him the P-39. I was hoping to do a shared build with him.

I went up to pick up the Stearman and several boxes of supplies from Linda Clark yesterday and she asked that I post this. Ed was a Marine at one time and was given a full military funeral. I copied and took the comments from all of you to Linda and she was very moved at such kindness. I also picked up some kits; A Guillows Dauntless, a 900 series Mustang, and a DR 1, as well as an EZ Built P 39. So now I have TWO DR 1s and the mega kit coming from Washington!! I actually want to keep both DR 1s but I will consider letting the others go to a good home. Ed actually got to go for a ride in one of the Red Baron Stearmans and it must have been a truly wonderful experience for him.

There was a time some 25-30 years ago I would have "seen" a lot more in this painting. Now, it's just stunning and moving after hearing of the story and visiting the LS85 website. You are a special person DD. Enjoy the reunion.

You said the reunion is this month. Hope that you have a good time and a safe trip to and from Shreveport. Maybe, you will have some good experiences to share with us when you get back. Al

Except that he's always giving it away rather than growing a collection for just himself.

4 once I don't know what to say..., Except that you too have one HELL of a museum DD
David Duckett, Comment for image # 926303 Sep 08 07:26
Except for the addition of red paint and writing in the names (look closely) this yellow painting has remained untouched for 3 years and was originally painted upside down to this. That was before I had heard about LS 85. Since then it has always reminded me of the attack but I didn't realize what was there until I painted these 4 shields. By adding the red and writing in the names of the men who were killed on that mountain the painting which started out 3 years ago as the result of a few Coronas and a blank canvas has taken on a new life. I posted a picture of it on my vets site a couple of days ago and was really surprised at the reaction, about what one of my better planes might get from you guys! The most surprising came from a lady who is related to one of the men killed ( Brother??) and will be at the dedication with 15 family members. She teaches school in Texas and was apparently quite moved when she saw it. She sees what I see as just pretty colors as full of symbolism depicting the entire event and it's easy to see when one reads what she sees. One of my friends on the site who used to work for me really trashed me in private about it not being complete, that he didn't understand "abstract" art, on and on and on. I sent him her response and what it meant to her and he wrote back that it made him cry and that he would keep his mouth shut from now on. I mailed this to her yesterday and I also mailed the shields to Major Sliz, who doesn't know it's coming and has never heard of me, and to Colonel Clayton who likewise doesn't know it's coming but knows who I am. The lady will be bringing "Incident at Phou Pha Thi" to the dedication. It makes it all worth it.
