This Sunday when the Moon rises it will be as close as it ever gets. I don't know what the correct term is for it but the media has dubbed it "Super Moon".

This painting is also very good. Again the simplicity and the treatment of the detail get my attention. The scene is familiar to what we saw in Japan, except there were more trees and perhaps a bit more industrialized.

Thank you, David, for the description of the two paintings. This one with the parachutes is very good and I can see why it is your favorite, especially being an original. It reminds me of something that the late Andrew Wyeth would have painted - its attention to detail and the simplicity of the subject. In your other post, you mention the location as the air base at Osan. In 1963, we were assigined to Itazuke air base Japan and were temporarily attached to a squadron that flew F-100s. We were a radar mech and some of the guys in our squadron were temporarily sent to Osan where some of the squadron's F-100s were sited. I did not have the opportunity of going there.

This is a parachute stretched alongside the building and forming one side of a volleyball court. It's at a small park with a bar and a few tables and chairs outside. Except for this building, it's all open area with very few trees. During the Korean War most of the trees were burned to heat houses. They were using charcoal when I was there and the thing behind the white portion is a chimney type thing for that. It was to be called Parachute but when I gave it to my friend, a Viet Nam vet, he renamed it Tet. It's my favorite because it's the best thing I ever painted and the one of which I am most proud since it is totally original.

Al, this was painted from a photo taken the same day as the one with the parachute. It's in Osan, Korea, just outside the Air Force base. It was March, 1975, and the temperature was about 20 degrees.

David, we looked at this painting a lot and are intrigued with it. Why is it your favorite? And if you would tell us the story behind it. The fabric looks like segments of parachutes, perhaps drouge chutes? And where in Korea was the photo taken, upon which the painting is based. Al

For Marlinus..this is in the Tornado build thread as are a few others and will illustrate why my models look the way they do. I didn't build any models during my 20 years in the Air Force but I painted a lot of canvases.

Aircraft as art. This Jaguar is installed as an art piece at the Tate Britain. It saw service in the Gulf War.

It's a "multi role fighter" and the wings do "swing", move back and forth. It's LOUD!!
FLYBOYZ, Comment for image # 1676305 Mar 10 05:19
Hi David!Isn,t the Tornado a medium bomber and wings shift back?Don,t know to much about the aircraft other than Ive always like it for its ability for busting up runways.
