One of Buffalo Airways favorite plane to use in Alaska.

was this before or after the c-47?

It was quite an amazing aircraft and would have put Curtiss in a very competitive position in the airliner market if the War had not intervened. The original civilian version was pressurized and was meant to compete with the Boeing 307, but more economical to run with two 2000 horsepower engines instead of four 1100 horsepower engines. The Army ordered them as cargo transports, unpressurized with reinforced floors and large cargo doors. Back in the 1950's, when I was employed as a "ramp monkey" at the Van Nuys airport, the pilot for one of the cargo lines taxied a C-46 too close to a hangar when picking up a load. He could not turn the plane around under power and they had to round up every person on the ramp to push it back by hand. That incident gave all of us there, at the time, a deep, personal appreciation of the size of this aircraft.

The circular piece is cardstock included in the kit. All I did was paint the inside of the cowlings black.

Can you tell me your color scheme for the engines?

Yeah, there's a bunch of torn up airplanes at the bottom of that hill...

This airport was featured on " The 10 worst Airports" (or something like that) on the History Channel (I think) a while back. I think it was in Nepal. Pretty crazy.

Mr. Duckett, not only is your artistry and craftsmanship inspiring, your generosity is world class. To be able to part with treasures such as these knowing how much time, effort, heart and soul went into them is truly commendable. I certainly hope that they inspire those who see them to not only to take up a creative art, but to give of themselves as you have. Seriously, it takes a better man than I to do what you have done today. Amazing sir, simply amazing.

I spoke with the teacher once and know that the models are there but I've heard nothing else.
